Architectural Scale Model
Client: Calgro M3, Architectural model of a retirement village at a scale of 1:360 Model of site showing all buildings, structures, driveways and vegetation This scale is a bit difficult to work in, as the buildings are very small, yet big enough to show some level of detail. The scales that models are built in, would typically be influenced by the size of the site. Ease of transportation is a factor I often advise my clients about, especially if I am aware of the fact that the model is going to travel a lot.

Engineering Scale Model
This model was built for MBE Minerals (formerly Humboldt Wedag) , an international engineering company that designs and build equipment for the mining industry. We have done various engineering models for them over the years, the models are used at exhibitions worldwide, as their products are too big to ship to some of these events. The scales varied at around 1:20 and the models were very detailed in order to show all the design features the client needed to demonstrate.

This model was built for marketing purposes and was on display at Seeff offices in Cape Town. The scale of 1:200 was functional for good detail, but small enough in order to fit the whole site onto a model that was still easily transportable.

Topographical Scale Model
Topographical / site layout model of the Port of Richards Bay. This model was built to show the proposed long term layout Transnet envisions for the Port of Richards Bay. Due to the vast area that needed to be covered, the scale was very small (around 1: 5000), some detail had to be exaggerated in order for it to be more recognizable. A model maker would use this technique from time to time, as this is not an architectural model , and seeing the detail was more important to the client than the architectural correctness.
